Default Just getting back into fishing..

    Hello all,

Have not done much fishing since my partner passed away a few years back ( my father). Well, pulled the boat out and got the bug. Mostly used minnows on a slip bobber, but been looking at these Power Grubs. How about somefeedback on a good size. Was looking at 2 inchers. That about right? Thanks and nice forum!!!!

    Welcome from Upstate NY!

I use mostly the little 1 1/2" tubes, but we do get crappie on 3" PowerBait grubs too - usually fished with a "safety-pin" style spinner.

I'd give them a try - worst thing that could happen is you get to spend time on the water and don't bring home a ton of fish.

While there's definitely nothing wrong with continuing the "family tradition" of minnow/float fishing, it's obvious you have a hankerin for a little more "hands on action" type of fishing ... as in casting, jigging, or trolling. In this case, the use of plastics from 1 to 3 inches is not out of the question. By far, the 1.5in plastics are the most versatile length for Crappie (IMHO). Power Grubs/tubes, BPS hollow tubes, CrappiePro solid body tubes, Panfish Assassins, and a whole host of other similar baits are what fill many of the pockets of my tackle boxes ... and they've all proved themselves, at one time or another. They range in sizes of 1.5 - 1.75 - 2 inches (depending on brand). Paired with a 1/32 or 1/16oz weedless jighead, they can be fished in some pretty gnarly cover
