Default I Can't Figure Them Out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're finally finding some crappie bunched up together and a bit more cooperative but they're still only 8 to 10-feet deep and some of the males are still dark like they are spawning and some of the females still have very viable looking eggs and a few have runny eggs like they are still spawning.

We've had several days of unseasonably cool weather and I'm wondering if some of the stragglers are trying to get one last batch of fry hatched off. Our surface temperatures have been hovering in the mid 70s but I suspect that the water temperature at 8 to 10-feet may very well be in the range where they can spawn.

I just happened to run into a pile of real nice crappie and a decent walleye this morning that were more than eager for a boat ride:

Nineteen of the crappie were 14-inches or longer and the biggest crappie was 16.5-inches and weighed 2-pounds, 1-ounce:

The walleye was 24-inches long and weighed 4-pounds, 9-ounces:

If it weren't for the dire need for toilet facilities by one of my crew members I wouldn't have even been in the area where we caught most of our fish. Even then I nearly passed right by the brushpile that gave us about 25 of the better crappie and the walleye thinking that it was probably a bit too shallow.

But on a whim I decided to give it a quick check and as soon as we dropped our lines in we had a triple, which consisted of 2-fourteens and a fifteen. For the next 10 minutes it was fast and furious action netting fish and baiting hooks as we put another dozen or more in the box. They finally slowed down but we kept catching one or two every few minutes for about an hour or so.

I'd rather be lucky than good!

that's some good fishing, Jerry. We have also encountered spawning fish here on the Tenn-Tom waterway. It has been one weird spring and spawn. Fish here started the middle of March and due to cool snaps are still making whoopie. I caught a 13" male today black as soot with a beat-up tail. I would love to see them quit fiddling around and get back to normal. We have been catching fish from 3ft. to 12ft.l

those are some good pictures. Thanks for posting them.
