My question is what do you think is the best spinning rod to use for fishing jigs for crappie. And what test line do you recomend. Been a few years away from fishing was mostly bass fishing but now my wife wants to get back into it again. Starting over again. :D And maybe the best real for the rod. Hope not asking to much :p

    Thanks

MItchell 308 with Berkley lightin rods med-light action are good combos that don't break the bank

I like casting jigs. I use one of these on a 5' ultra lite ugly stick.

I use it for bream fishing too. It's a smooth real, cast really good, and fun it you hook something with some size to it.

For the reel, I'd get a Shimano Symetre. They're great reels for $80. I'd spool it with 4# line.

That leaves you with plenty of money for a rod. Here are some good options in the $40-$80 range:

    Bass Pro Microlite
    Quantum Xtralite
    St. Croix Premier/Triumph/Reign
Cabelas Fish Eagle II/Tourney Trail/Pro Guide
    Shimano Clarus

Try a berkly cherrywood rod in L action. I love UL action but the light action works really well for using jigs. I spool that with 4lb triline but 6lb will work just as good if not better. The rod is light enough to detect lite bites but has enough back bone to handle Northen Pike, Walleye, and Bass.

I'd go with D4D's suggestions. Other good reels - quantum kinetic - Cabelas - http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...dexId=cat20333

On sale right now for $99 - sweet reel made by diawa - The tournament ZX reel looks good too.

I'd match it with a St Croix premier or avid 7 ft light.
