    Default Minn Kota problems

My Minn Kota 55 Power Drive will run for a few minutes then cut off and then run a few minutes and cut off again.
Everything else is working fine and it will run allday like this.
Does anyone know what might be causing this?

Bigbob, check all your connections. A dirty or corroded connection can do that. If they are all good, take the top off and look for a loose wire. Physically grab the wires and shake them a little. Hopefully its something simple like that.

I am not sure what your problem is, but I was out with a buddy who has a brand new model that was put on his 06 Ranger last year and this is his 3rd one in about 9 months..Doing the same thing as you described....They just keep replacing it bc it is under warranty, but no one seems to be able to figure it out...Good Luck!

Most likely the control board in the foot pedal. I had 2 that did this. If you could borrow a foot control from someone and try it then you would know or eliminate that as the problem. I would give that a try before taking the whole thing off the boat and sending it to a service center. I think I paid $65 or $70 for new ones.
    Hope this helps.

I had a poor connection on my motor that created a great deal of heat with all the current flowing through a few strands in the wire. I could run at a low speed all day; high speed a few minutes and it would cut off. After a cooling off period, it would work again. I found and fixed the connection. Everything works fine now.
