    Default Crankbait question

Do most of you guys tie direct to your crankbait or use a swivel? Are there pro's and con's to either way?

I also use a snap swivel to make changing colors and sizes quicker.

I have heard that a crankbait will run truer tied directly to it - I have also heard the newer swivels will run true without the line twist - I would experiment with both and see which catches more fish and the heck with what me or anybody else says
with my mind on crappie and crappie on my mind -
and if ya'll see Goober later tellem I said duh huh - he'll know what ya mean!!!!!!!!

And I thought it was just our Walmarts. Hear a rumor that we will be getting an Academy in the new strip mall. I sure hope so, Walmart has gone down hill in the fishing department lately. Going to the coast tomorrow, will have to look for some there.

If the crankbait comes with a split ring in the bill eye ... I tie direct to that, most of the time. If it does not, then I use a snap lock/clip (like those SteveJ listed). I never use an actual "swivel", of any kind.
I've yet to have a snap lock fail on me ... thru Bass up to 7lbs, Channel Cats up to 8lbs, Flathead Cats up to 6lbs, Hybrid Stripers up to 15" long, and Gar up to 6ft long :p
I don't troll cranks for Crappie, so all of my experiences are Bass fishing or Hybrid Striper/White Bass casting/trolling. I generally have a snap lock tied on my crankbait rod ... and even use them, when there's a split ring already on the crank (yeah, I sometimes even break my own rules .... LOL ).

I don't like "swivels", never have. And, about the only "swivels" I've ever used ... or had much confidence in ... are Sampo ball bearing swivels. I can tie a Improved Clinch knot, about as fast as I can get the clip open - hook it into the crank's split ring/bill eye - and fasten it closed.

I use only a snap assuming the crankbait has a split ring. No need for a snap swivel as all that does is to make the crank look larger.
the trick to catch that finnicky speck....
gently set the hook just before the peck

Love those snaps, BUT...I've got several on my shelf straightened completely out I keep as reminders of what can happen when a big striper inhales a bait meant for another species... And yes, I do have a smooth working drag set properly but those light wire snaps were not designed for giant stripers and/or catfish. But, other than the occasional heartbreak, they work great

I also like using the snap. I have not a problem yet and have used them for years.
