Default Sorry but another tying question

As far as hair goes or marabou goes. Whats the consensus as to which to use?
I've been tying marabou with a little deer tail but think I'd be better off with just marabou.
If you don't use marabou, then whats your choice?
I have to put in an order and that's why I'm asking.

    Oh yes
Skip would you post that pic again of your favorite jigs?

    Thanks
    Mike

I really like deer hair, but will be moving to kiptails. You don't waste as much with smaller jigs and it has good action. Marabou's ok, but I'd rather have hair. It just looks better and is easier to handle, IMO.

I like kiptails, but if you want them, you'd better order alot of them now if you can find them cause p.e.t.a. is having all of kiptail manufactoring and selling done away with.

Marabou has more action in the water, a bit harder to handle while tying than hair, but worth it to me.

started using deer tails when i was a kid and still use them. I go to deer processing places in the fall and collect'em up, bring'em home, skin'em out, dry'em,. and dye'em. haven't seen anything that will out do'em. use maraboo for multicolors sometimes with the deer hair, but never make strictly maraboo jigs. spice that deer with flashaboo for some extra kick.

Deer hair is a fairly rigid hollow tube that denies the marabou from doing what it does best. Deer hair flare out when wrapped the harder it's spun down the more it flares. Bad choice for mixing with life like materials like marabou.

northern deer hair is hollow. southern deer hair is not hollow. looks like kip hair. northern hair is hollow to hold body heat better. deer in the south don't need it.

My opinion is the marabou or hackle feathers is best bar none! Try both.

I tie some deer hair, but it's not high on my list.

I love to use either Marabou or squirrel with a flash of mylar and a few kip tail hairs. Less is more. Keep in mind that a great looking jig also includes a neat wrap. Seal the wrap with head cement or do like Skip does and add a glob of glow in the dark mixture.
