    Question MotorGuide VS. Minn Kota

Hey folks, don't want to start an argument here but I'm on the verge of spending some big bucks on a new trolling motor and wanted your thoughts.

I want a "digital", variable speed, cable pull-pull foot controlled trolling motor, 12V 55 pound thrust, 42" shaft.

The near top-of-the-line ones from MinnKota and MotorGuide seem very similar in features. Minn Kota Maxxum vs. MotorGuide Pro Tour I think. Nothing fancy such as the sonar, easy lift, or autopilot. These motors are in the Mid to High $600 range.

Any reason to go for one vs. the other? Opinions and experiences please.

I have a MotorGuide 46 pound foot controlled motor on my 17' Xpress I want to upgrade, and want to put the old motor on a smaller boat.

    thanks,
    Joe

I became a Minn Kota guy with the first one I ever bought and would have nothing else. I have that Maxxum on the boat I have for sale right now. It's only one year old and I made the dealer exchange it for the 5 speed that came on it. I can go out and run this thing in the wind for a pretty long time and when I charge it it's done pretty fast since it must have not gone down that far.

I short I would not have anything other than Minn Kota!

    Just my .02 cents!

I have tried them both and am now a die hard Minnkota person. Bas experiences with MG. However the draw back of going from MG to Minnkota is the holes don't line up and you have to drill new ones. But then again you may have to with a newer model of either.

Hands down, Minn-Kota is the best. I have a trolling motor repair shop and do warranty work on them. Minn-Kota stands behind their motors where the other guys don't. Plus Minn-Kota is a much better motor.
    My 2 cents worth.

I agree with WEEZER. I wouldn't think of buying anything but Minn Kota.

I'll keep the trend going. MinnKota all the way.

M/K all the way. I run a 82# motorguide digital right now and it is a piece! I got a sweet deal and I'm just waiting for it to go out to buy a M/K maxim. I had a 109# motorguide digital that was in the shop 3 times in less than a year for board repairs.
