Power Drive Shaft

Has anyone ever tried ti cut a composite shaft on a power drive? I have a small stick-steer boat that the shaft sticks back so far that it is in the way. I pulled the head off and looked to me that you could just cut it off and re-drill the bolt hole. Just don't cut the wires when cutting the shaft.

Take your time like JH says, you don't want to mess up the shaft cause they aint cheap. Shaft and motor housing come as a unit. Talk to your local minkota service person and get their advice on how to go about it. If you can't find anybody local then here's the number for one in Ga.. 1-770-964-0847 He's worked on my unit before and is really good. Heck of a guy too, I'm sure he will help.

wrap the shaft with some tape and cut carefully. Use a grinding wheel/cutoff saw rather than a saw blade if you can.

Be very careful this stuff puts of some bad nasty dust that you don't want to be breathing a lot of, wear a mask of some sort. You will probaly have to cut it with a highspeed cut off wheel if it is made from a carbon composite material if you don't it will splinter and crack and you won't get to far with a regular saw blade. It is possible to get a diamond coated blade for a recpricating saw that would work also.

Tubing cutter worked just fine. Already have it cut and back together. Thanks for the input.
