Default Transducer FAQs. Book mark this. Good poop here.

OK. I ain't so smart that I know everything about transducers. This company, Airmar Technology, has helped me on several school projects. They are the major manufacturer of transducers worldwide. They make the xdcrs for most of all the fishfinders we use. They are helping me with a smart transducer. It transmits nema codes to the laptop. I am working on something.

Anyway,Airmar has a good faq list. Most of the fishfinders we use link to this site for faqs. Airmar has email help and also phone support (your dime). They are really nice folks. They can and will tell you a lot more than the fishfinder manufacturers reps. They know all about the xducers.

    Just to share,

I found that site after Papasage posted about black stuff coming out of his xducer. I couldn't figure out what that was so I went looking. It seems it is encapsulation for the piezioceramic element (whatever all that is). Or maybe its the sound absorbing material. Excellent site tho for info about fish finders.

These are nice folks here Bill. I forgot about the insulation part. It is for shock absorption.

Ceramic discs oscillate when stimulated by electric current (piezo effect). The frequency of oscillation is determined by the size of the disc. A 50 khz disc is bigger than a 200 khz disc.

I saw some crystals made one time. They were cut, then silver was sprayed onto the crystal in a vacuum to slow the oscillation down (tuning).

Interesting stuff. Well, to me and you maybe.
