Default Sun Protection Hats and Shirts?

I am fixing to start shopping around for a good light weight hat and shirt to protect me from sunburn. Especially the neck and ears. Have tried straw hats but am thinking about the new hats with the big brims and flaps that are made with the sun protection fabric. Any body use them?

I've been looking at the "Flats" hats also. I am looking for a light hat with a dark color on the underside of the bill, removable cape to cover the neck and ears and good ventilation. There are a lot of different types to choose from. They are also called "guide" hats.

    Anyone have a brand preference?

Never knew there was much in a hat until I started searching around. Here's some I liked so far.

In the heat of the summer the umbrellas on my boat seat make it feel 20 degrees cooler. Im thinking of getting a misting bottle that runs off batteries and sprays a mist constantly from the top of the umbrella. Seems like it would keep me cool on those 100 degree days here in Louisiana

As far as staying cool, these cool bandanas are the ticket. Wrap one around your head and one around your neck.

I bought a similar product at Wmart a couple years ago for $2 a piece that worked pretty good so I got crazy and bought a dozen of these fancy ones last year and they're like MAGIC

Haha - An Umbrella that rains on people!

This site has more sun hats than anyplace I've seen. I need a good sunhat as well for my big head and I like this one.

You might also want to check out tilleyhats.com. Great hats...quite a few styles, some really cool feautres but a little expensive in m.h.o. They do come with a lifetime guarantee...even against loss. I know I've lost more than one hat blasting down a lake

I buy cheap cup towels or oversized wash rags. I like to soak them in the lake then put them under my hat. My problem is remembering to do it before I get my ears burned.
