It may help to know I have a friend that trot lines for his living here on Toledo Bend and his hooks are set pretty shallow, but in deep water. His are set is like 30' of water and the hooks are just 6'-8' down and he only uses chicken hearts. He even cuts the chicken hearts in half. He catches a lot of fish!

I did a little of this a couple of years ago and did well. He uses chord from chicken supplier houses and 100# mono for his drops. I used circle hooks and he uses a not so big light wire Mustad that he bends into a circle hook. He does it his way because they are cheap and he buys them 1000 at a time.

Thanks, I got that one off a circle hook after a guy told me to replace those treble hooks for one and it worked real well. With the trebles I didn't hook them so I lost 5 of them until the circle hook landed the first one. I am now using a metal coat hanger with a loop bent into it for a weight so they don't hang up. That alone saved me a bunch of rigs.

Update: I caught another catfish tonight it was a flathead but not on the catfish pole. I caught it off a black/chartruese tube. Never caught a catfish off one of those in 5ft of water.

You got no idea how rare it is to get a flathead on an artificial. That's crazy man!
