Default Pays to try new things - IE B.Spin and Crappie Magnet

I've used curl tail grubs with Beetle Spins but no straight tail grubs. Since the fish were clobbering bright chartreuse Crappie Magnet grubs under a dark and cloudy sky, I figured why not add a bit of flash.

Sunfish notify anglers what works and what works for sunnies works for everything else so I started out with just the grub just to see whether the fluorescent color in low light with rain on the way would irritate the crap out of fish as it did these fish along with small 4" bass::

Added the grub to my homemade b. spin and 10 fish hit it:

Fish were near weed edges off flats dropping into 7' or deeper as well as under shoreline overhanging branches. Location variety made fishing much easier though not the 15 mph wind. Steady rain kicked me off the lake after catching 20 fish in 2 hours. Today should be interesting trying more lure design with the B. Spin.

Today sucked ! : 15-20 mph wind and blue sky. Fish were most likely deep in the weeds or in deep water somewhere suspending but at least the few I caught, I caught on new stuff such as this spike tail grub on the B.Spin:

This hybrid design caught fish with and without the spin:

    The claw caught a few:

Yesterday's Chartreuse Crappie Magnet still caught a few.
But one thing I've learned about fishing under a cloudless sky with bright sun and a with high wind : fish either early or late - PERIOD! Good thing the trip isn't far to get home.

Catching a few is way better than not catching any

Congrats on getting out and getting a few. rained for about three hours off and on here night before last and called for storms yesterday. I had to run out on an errand that put me closer to my fishing spot than sitting at my desk, so I went. Tried a modificated gold hand tied with chartreuse silly leg tail jig. I caught a nice sand bass on second cast, and a crappie on the seventh. It had been spitting rain for a bit, but all at once without warning, a flash of light, static electricity, and and extra loud boom had me scurrying for the truck. light rain I can handle, thunder boomers and I'm on the couch...Now back to your normal activities, didn't mean to write so long...thanks for taking us along.

Nice to read about someone else's experience and would like to see the lure that caught fish - IE gold hand-tied chartreuse silly-leg tail jig. Might give me some ideas (though I still have to corner the dog to get some hair for more hand tie jigs....:rolleyes
