    Default My lil Parakeet

    Is a hunter by golly
She is really more sparrow hawk than Parakeet for sure
Now mind ya she aint no lil tweety bird at all and is in fact a REALLY small jig offering .
She is what my bud calls a "Nano Fry" .
He sent me a couple to play with and they were so darn cute I just had to tie one on .
The fry are still in abundance in many locations I hit and to be sure the fall bite here is trying to come on but the fish still persist with finicky as heck most days .
Finicky crappie to a jig person can be frustrating and to watch them on one of them new livescope things swim up and turn around and swim off aint fun either .
So even though I was stuck on the bank and not really seeing what was up down there .I still kinda knew what was up down there . The local guy said he been there an hour and a half and hadn't got a single bite !
I said darn the bad luck and pitched out Miss Parakeet ….she settled and I set the hook .
KABOOM is the word yawl and I began the windmill effect on them there unsuspecting crappie fish
After I put about 4 or 5 in his box I tuned him up and had him pinch down his bait to super tiny as well and sure enough he was in the show right beside me just like that .
I left when he was in the teens on fish in his box and he said thanks about a bunch of times for the tips and fish ….and off to work I went .
Never underestimate the power of a tiny offering on crappie my friends
I only stayed an hour from 830 am to 930 am and the fish were holding about 10 foot deep in 14 fow , slightly overcast when I got there and sun shining when I left .
I changed to a larger jig by a quarter inch later and finished off my hour at over 30 fish with several that bent out my wire hooks escaping during this episode as well .
so maybe try a tiny bait next time you hear they aint biting ….
and yes the bites were ridiculous soft as well

Yep, that s why I am so excited about the custom jigs Pepop sent me in 1/32d. His jigs are works of art and these are the first ones I ordered in a small version. They are due tomorrow.

I liked your Lil Parakeet when I saw it last night. So did those nice sized white bass you introduced to it.

I seldom use anything larger than a 1/32nd or 1/64th. I add a split shot 5-12" split shot above them to get them down a little faster as I am somewhat impatient.

I like Pepop's 1/64th oz jigs myself. I have caught bluegill, catfish, crappie, white bass and a 6# largemouth bass using his 1/64th jigs. Sk ties some nice 1/64's as well. I know as he gave me some last year in the ketchn carrot design, which I used until I lost the last one.

Only thing I liked better was a 1/80 that I was given a couple of years back. Takes forever to sink but the fish loved it. And I am not talking about dinks, either. Nice sized crappie love these small jigs.

I was amazed at the size of that bass that took that carrot last year in late winter bro , man was thing a brute . and yes one can wait a good bit for them to get down in the fish zone ,but more often than not its worth the wait

Don't think I have anything that tiny. Gonna have to check into it. Do you happen to know where you got those from?
