    Default New(To me) motor!

I just picked up a 1983 Mercury 7.5 horse outboard for $220 today. It was used once shortly after being bought in 1982, and stuck in a shed for the remaining years until I found it! I don't have any pics, but it is in awesome shape. There isn't a single bolt on this motor that has EVER been removed, the factory paint is still intact and unscratched on all of the heads. It even has the original sparkplugs with the painted-black metal(they still work too!). Anyways, I just wanted to brag... I'm going to pick up a new water-pump impeller this week and have it ready to put on my jonboat on opening day this weekend (sorry 3-horse, you gotta' go):D .

I have a 82 or 83 Merc 25. Sat for YEARS in the shed without running. In 01' I changed the lower unit oil and it fired off in 2 pulls. The old Mercs are loud, but reliable.

You bet that is as sweet deal.

Being that it hasn't been run in so long. Do yourself a favor and run a rich mixture of gas for that first tank.
If it's only been ran one time sence it was new,, it probibly isn't even broken in yet.
Oh yes,, don't forget the lower unit grease.
    Good luck with it.

Sweet! Yup, FisherMike is right, double the oil you mix in on that first tank of gas. Break it in like a new motor, vary the speed constantly for the first few hours on the motor.

Another good idea is to use Sea Foam additive with every tank. It's available at NAPA. It's a stabilizer and prevent deposits and gumming in the fuel system. Good Luck with that motor, what a sweet deal!
