    Default ...Tube size?

How big of a hollow tube do you use? I see some small ones all the way up to the 2 inchers...what's the good size to use?

somebody told me the mid south super jigs were good for all size crappie. Even the smaller ones go after them. He said he used a small tube but it was called a super jig or something. Any idea where I can find these mid south tubes?

    Wink For "hollow" tubes .....

I mostly use 1.5" length. I do have/carry the 2" lengths ... for when a bigger profile bait is necessary (depth, water clarity, fish preference).

But, to be quite honest, I'm starting to move away from "hollow" tubes ... in favor of the solid body tubes. I like the Crappie Pro brand, and Renegade has some good ones too. Crappie Pro's are 1.75" in length. I'm starting to prefer the solid body style, for the simple reason that they stay on the hook better. They don't tear as easily, so they tend to last longer. They're less likely to need to be glued to the jighead, in order to stay on the hook.

Overall, I have plastic tubes/grubs that range from 1" to 2" ... and have caught 4" dinks to 2.5lb Slabs on them. But, to answer your question, in the narrowest of length selection choices ..... a 1.5" hollow tube would be my choice.

I think it depends onb how active they are, I usually like to start with a bigger bait, if they are agressive then you will get bigger ones on bigger baits. If they ignore it, try downsizing. keep doing that til you find the size that gets em to bite!

We've been using a 3" bait made by Rocky top out of Missouri with awesome results. It is big and bulky but even small fish will bite it. Caught some big fish on it this spring.

Those are some nice crappieeeees there, they would take a 4"-5" bait.

I mostly use 2" tubes in the lakes/ponds and will move up to the 3" swimbaits for the river fishies. :D I'll have 7"-9" gills take the 3" swimbaits on the river.

I only use one size here on Nimrod. The 2'' umbrella tube (Southern Pro ) and an unpainted 1/8 th oz leadhead pushed inside.
