Default first trip of year pics

well I made my first trip of the year to one of my honey holes. slipped on the waders and went at it. 40 minutes of fishing produced about 70 specks giving me plenty to choose from for our first fish fry of the new season. i used 1/32 oz jig head, pink w/ white body and tipped with pink berkley power wigglers. 1- 5 feet of water. simply casted out and slow retrieve just under the surface. the action was fast and furious.they were not the biggest but a few nice slabs

most of the fish i this evening were within 10 feet of my feet. half of them i simply flipped out 6 or 7 feet of line and slowly swam the jig from side to side right in front of me. i could actually see lots of fish coming in from the main lake into the bay right in front of where i was standing. i was at the very entrance to a shallow water bay where the entrance is only about 15 feet wide. they were coming in by the school the last hour before dark. there were also some huge largemouth bass just inside the mouth of the bay and blowing up on the crappies as they were coming in. it was quite amazing. never seen anything like it. what a rush.

I ran into a swarm of crappies in one of my local canals a couple days ago. They were right under me and were hitting 6 inches under the surface. For a half hour to 45 minutes I was catching and releasing about what I figured to be 3-4 fish per minute. I got about 5 keepers. That's Chautauqua for you these days. It was fun though.
Good things come to those who bait.
