Weed beds

Lots of different ways and cover variations for catching crappie discussed here. Seems to me not so much about summer weed beds. Do you have a preferred way to attack weed beds?

yes the lawn mower jig is the way to go.

I usually attack them at night, with a light, on the outside edge, suspended over deep water. minnows on glow jigs and jigging raps.

Early morning and evening I run a crankbait just brushing the top of the weeds. Then a deeper crankbait along the edges. During high sun periods weedless jigs pulled through the top 1/3 of the weeds.
I tried tossing a lawnmower but banging into the aluminum boat spooked the fish

Dominate Fishing on youtube has some really good content on fishing summer weed beds. He mostly fishes over the top of the beds with a jig under a float. I think weed bed fishing is mostly for northern black crappie but I'm sure there are exceptions. Black crappie love being in and around weeds. I usually set up on steep drop offs on the deep edge of the weeds in the evenings. The schools suspend over deep water during the day and enter the weeds in the evenings to feed. The bite is good for 45 minutes to an hour and then stops just as quickly as it began.

I think weed bed fishing is mostly for northern black crappie but I'm sure there are exceptions.

Here in the central Illinois waters I fish the majority of the crappie are white. They love weeds. Especially in waters with sparse timber. They feed heavily in the weeds and if the water tends to be clear they will hide deep in the weeds during bright sun.

Here in the central Illinois waters I fish the majority of the crappie are white. They love weeds. Especially in waters with sparse timber. They feed heavily in the weeds and if the water tends to be clear they will hide deep in the weeds during bright sun.

And why would they not ?? They have food, oxygenated water, shade (both for camouflage & cooler water temps), and a hiding place from predators.

I get the feeling that there are not too many members here who visit weed beds. It's not like it's easy to spider rig through weeds.
