I dont have any scientific data, lol, but some days when I'm out almost 1/3 of the crappie anglers I see are on pontoons.

Pontoons are popular for crappie fishing on Joe Pool. That could be due to most crappie fishermen I see on Joe Pool are old men. I fish from a pontoon for crappie, quit chasing bass years ago when Bass Master made bass fishing popular and all the fools started fishing for bass.

I crappie fish from a pontoon for several reasons #1 so much room for being organized and not confined to a seat#2 being able to put a big group of people on the boat makes for an interesting day on the water#3 with today’s electronics and trolling motors I can easily control the boat in a moderate wind and stay on spots pretty easily while being comfortable, I find the older I get the more comfortable I am fishing the longer I can stay out without getting burned out

far as I'm concerned a pontoon is tops for fishing for about anything if you set it up right..not all cramped up great for all day fishing trips.

I live on a lake and since my pontoon is always in the water, I fish from it because it's easy. I do have a small boat for fishing other lakes.

    Default crappie pontoon

Here is pics of what I have set up on inside of boat, no actual boat pics as its just a generic 2001 Bass Tracker Bass Buggy.
Lowrance HDS 7 Touch up front, Hummingbird Helix-9 DI on console, battey/charger in front left storage box for the HDS 7 and Black Lights mounted along side of boat..
    Cornfield Crappie Gear rod holders.
Also has a LSS2 SI /down imaging transducer mounted on a pole that I can put out front side of boat if wanted.. I usually just use the 2D sonar transducer on XI5 as its a pain pulling the other in/out every time I move.
3 bank charger under back seat with starter battery and 2 batteries for 12vlt trolling motor..Spider loc mounting brackets on front of boat and a couple along side rails/also have spider loc rail mounts so I can troll/catfish off of rails in any position, forgot to take pics of them.. Also a cheap lockable truck tool box that has all my boxes of jigs/lures, fillet knife, registration, extra batteries for remote, rags etc in it.
    Motorguide XI5 55# w/GPS and pinpoint etc.
Trolling motor does a excellent of job of holding boat even in a 15 mph wind..
Boat has a 2002 70 hp Johnson/Suzuki 4 stroke that purrs like a kitten, if you mess with throttle enough you can get it to troll at about 1.8mph.
