I used Vanilla Extract before just reapply often . They say Dryer sheets works . Best thing is long sleeves and a head net keep them off your skin .
I fished near the Mississippi River in Ferriday, Louisiana. With all the high water and warm weather, the gnats are ferocious! The locals said that vanilla extract mixed half and half with water would repel them. I tried it and it works!!

Yeah I'm wanting to get the Bug Soother too. I hear it does good keeping mosquitoes from biting as well. They offer different sizes and packs on their website. Small one for tackle box, one for house, large refill, etc...

I have used all of the tactics mentioned above... but also like to use a little deet sprayed on my straw hat just before venturing out. They won't come near it.

i have found Buggins to work best especially better than vanilla. Can be found sometimes at local Walmart. But here it is on amazon. Used it in Canada and here for the Buffalo knats for past few years. Works for about 4 hrs then spay on again. https://www.amazon.com/Buggins-Natur...%2C347&sr=8-23

Bug soother! its natural, vanilla and lemon grass oil and stuff like that. Smells real good and repels gnats and flies like no other! I used to use vanilla but it would wash off quick with sweat or just wear out and lose its effectiveness, the bug soother is way better.
