    Default Wappapello Memorial Weekend

Laura and I braved Wapp Saturday morning to try to get in some fishing before the lake got crazy. We launched and 6:00 and went to the big flat by the two big islands. Fished there for about 20 minutes without a bite. We headed over to Asher Creek. The Lowrance lit up with fish as soon as we got there. We started long lining jigs. Laura was fishing single jigs, I was using doubles. After she landed about 10 crappie to my 0, I took one of my jigs off each line. Most fish were shorts but she caught a few nice ones for Wapp in the 12 inch range. We caught around 20-25 fish in Asher before the bite slowed. We checked out a few more spots. Caught 5 more fish at Mud Bank then ran over to Possum Creek. It was like a dessert there. We hardly marked any fish at all so instead of wasting time fishing, we ran up to Lost Creek and looked around. Not too impressed with anything we saw there. By this time, the lake lice were starting to show up so we ran up the river above Chonia. We found some fish in the river at the mouth of Otter Creek but the water had a lot of junk floating in it. We fished a while there and caught a few more but we got tired of fighting the grass and drift wood and trash floating down the river. It was about 11:30 by now, we decided to release the fish and head back to the ramp. We ran down the lake and the weekend warriors were out in force. I told Laura I can't be mad at them because when my kids were young, that was some of the best family time we had. We got back to Redman boat ramp and it was crazy. With the lake level being so high, we just beached to boat under a shady cotton wood tree and watched the show. It amazes me how rude some people are at a busy ramp. My pet peeve is people who don't get the boat ready before backing down and blocking the ramp for 20 minutes. Then the people with huge ski boats who can't back a trailer without taking up two lanes. Oh well, we were in no hurry and had a shady spot so we enjoyed the show. I think the final tally for the day was Laura 32 crappie, Speck 5 crappie.
The best color was blue/chartreuse and red/chartreuse.

I forgot to mention, my livewell pump started blowing fuses so I need to figure that out and after we pulled the boat out of the water, My keel guard was shredded and falling off the hull..
    Oh well, it's only money!

Sound like a good morning on the lake. I love to watch the action at the boat ramp.

No Smitty, the water from lost creek to the dam was pretty normal. Just very high. The part of Asher Creek we were fishing is usually about 4 feet deep in the winter. It was 21-23 feet deep yesterday
