Eastern NY means pretty much anything East of Utica... pretty big area.

A good place to start would be the DEC web page at:

http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dfwmr/fish/

They have a ton of info on different fishing waters throughout the state. if you can narrow down where you're looking to fish to maybe a couple counties, I'm sure the folks on this forum can get you pointed to some good places to go slabbin'

Saratoga lake and Round lake. Try along the outside edges of the weed beds.
