    Talking Crappie Fish-Wife in Training

I wanted to make sure my 9-year-old girl would make a good wife someday to a real man who loves fishing. So for now, she is gung-ho for crappie cleaning.

More then ever you got to keep the kids away from TV and let them see the real life...lol

    that's the way...Start 'em young.

I had my 10 year old son making fillets out of bullheads Saturday, only waited till he was 10 because I wanted to be sure he wouldn't cut off a finger lol!

Now, my wife?.... well, she doesn't have the best of luck when she's around anything sharp - I'd like to keep her in one piece, so I'll keep cleaning her catch for her

I hear ya - great job and looks like you've got a buddy there

But now, on the subject of training women...

that be sort of like trying to train a cat :D

I subscribe more to the grand canyon theory of dealing with
my wife - I'm slowly eroding her willpower to fuss over time -
    LOTS of time

it's took me 15 years, but the other night when it was cold, late,
and I had 30 fish to clean, I cleaned them on the kitchen counter
(on MY cutting board of course) and she didn't say a WORD Jeff

Don't train her too well I have to listen to "remarks" from other anglers every time my wife and I go together. She can cast a minnow/ bobber up against a cypress to within inches. All the while avoiding overhanging branches and every thing else that grabs tackle. some of the stuff she does reminds me of an old west trick shooter. At least remind your little girl not to give some ol boy a complex

Lil' Slabbandit, ( I don't think he likes it when I say that), is 23 now and an awesome fisherman, catfish hogger, turkey and deer hunter. Back when he had to stand on a bucket I used to let him fillet crappie with the electric knife. We only got one good fillet a lot of times but he learned quick.
I had him loading the stick steering boat when he could barely reach the floor. I would sat behind him the first year and then I let him do it after that.

My boys and I have always fished and hunted together and that is the stuff they remember now that our conversations about good times always goes to. They are older now, but still the best times were those. My son I always post about that was injured in Iraq is 38 and the other is 36 and I am so proud of both of them.

We had so many special times it's easy to lose count and some of the funniest time as well.
