Default I must be a slow learner

I got out on the water for the first time this year.
I took you guys word for it and left home the minnows and used only Jigs.
I ain't so sure about tying jigs now.

I had one lousy tap and I'm not so sure that was a crappie even.

Anyway,, the water temp was 44.6 deg. You think I'm rushing it a little?

Nah, You're not a slow learner - you're from a Northern latitude, just like us folks in Upstate NY. It's just not warm enough for 'em.

It's supposed to get warmer as the week goes on, maybe by Saturday.

Don't give up on jigs, when the crappie are close in i'll use a jig over a minnow and have more fun in the process.--shu

Don't give up on the jigs so soon.
    Give them a fair try.

Yeah, don't give up yet. Jigs work.

That's pretty cool water. Give the jigs another try when it warms up a little.

Make sure you don't over work the jig. Read some of the info on my web site and especially how to move the jig unless you are trolling like I do this time of year and then just pull it with your trolling motor. No jerking and jumping your jig!

Don't give up on the jigs, but don't give up on the minnows either. It doesn't hurt to have some along each time you go out. I have always believed that you feed the Crappie what they want, not what some one else tells you they should want. Every body of water is different and some lakes or bodies of water will only produce on live bait. Listening to someone else that hasn't fished on your body of water will have you going home with an empty live well. It never hurts to double up with an jig and minnow combo.

Your not a slow learner. Your are a smart one because you tried something and it didn't work, plus you asked for some help. That makes you smart. Each region of the country is different. Right now the south's water is where our water temps are in June and July. Some years our water temp doesn't even reach the mid 70's. Fish your jigs and try to sweeten the jig with maggots or minnows. Leave the tails off for awhile. The time for tubes and tails will be here soon enough.

Jigs will usually outfish minnows but when the water is still that cold, they don't like alot of movement. IMHO
