The roof of the mouth is the best place to stick them in my opinion. They suck the bait in then BAM, stick quick and get them in!!
Many a times when we jig on docks for crappie you hear and see and even experience it yourself . I am sure you have noticed it or done it a few times if you dock fish .
That old tell tale sign …..
The BANG of the jig on the metal roof above you when you MISS one BIG
the good news is that most of the day when I hit the dock with my buds this week , I didn't get much of that going on .
BUT .....I did hit the ROOF quite often ....
The roof of them crappie fishes mouths .....
mind you a few got it in the lip with other colors ,but them orange baits got et pretty hard .
have a great weekend yawl and stay tuned

What is the clarity of the water? I am thinking I have not been giving orange enough time in the water.

I use the orange stuff in clear to turbid waters in the spring time alot
That water is a bit turbid there , but the black crappie episodes earlier in the spring the water is very clear
