    Default New Mexico

Hey everyone. I have to go to Hobbs, New Mexico for a couple of weeks. Is there any crappie fishing around there? There isn't a New Mexico State forum, so I'm not too optimistic, but I thought I'd throw it out there and see. Thanks for the help.

Thank you "G". Looks like a rod and small tackle box are going to visit New Mexico!

I spent 9 mo. on a shutdown in Hobbs the only water to fish in is an inpoundment in the city park. They stock it with rainbow trout during the cooler months, catfish and small perch are the resident fish. Remember this is a desert water is scarce, temp change of 40 to 50* between low and high, wind blows all the time. This country boy was out of place over there.

Yeah I'm afraid I'm going to be like a fish out of water there to. I saw that Brantley State park is fairly close. I thought I'd give it a try. I'll be in a hotel, so it will all be catch and release.

NM has some excellent trout fishing in certain parts of the state (San Juan River, for example.)

If you can fit it in, go for it.

The crappie are biting at Elephant Butte. But, T or C is a long way from Hobbs.
Fishing is southeast or southwest NM is scarce, but, quail hunting is good.
