    Default Basic jig color suggestions

I'm not new to fishing for Crappie, but have always used minnows only. What are some good jig colors that would cover the basics for me? Thanks nice site!:D

    Welcome Illnoize from Michigan.
Good question. I too am about to venture into the jig unknown. I've never used them before so I need the info also.

These guys on here are a great bunch with all kinds of knowledge.

    Question Basics .....

let's see ..... my personal picks would be : Chartreuse, and most any other color with Chartreuse tails :p That covers a lot of water clarity conditions. Add to that ... solid white, solid pink, and grey/silver.
I'm sure others will agree, and most probably add to this list :D

Thanks for the compliment, and Welcome to Crappie.com !!

Hey Illinoize, Welcome aboard from Arkansas! I fish about 80% of the time with jigs and use minnows occasionally. My experience is limited to stained to muddy waters. If I could only have one color to fish these conditions it would be Black/Chartreuse with Glitter. I'm talking about the rubber tube jigs.
Maybe some of the guys who fish clear water will get on and give their suggestions.

The main rule of thumb is dark days dark colors bright day bright colors. There is a good article on Crappie.com on that page choice article 1 on water clarity and jig colors. Mizmo has earth tone colors that range from clear glitter to smoke blue glitter that work well in clear water conditions. you will also need some black/red/blue all with chartreuse tails, sometimes you use curly tails and sometimes tubes. You just have to experiment and apply the colors to the conditions. I always carry minnows and use jigs and most often both together for that extra bang!! Give it a try and good luck. The best thing about jig fishing is that when you get a bite you know you still have your jig and with minnows you have to check your line.

In hand tied Jigum Jigs I use straight chartreuse, white chartreuse the majority of the time.

In tubes, I will use straight chartreuse, black/chartreuse, blue/white.

In bubble bellies/stubby butts, I will use straight chartreuse (limetruse), clear, white, tomato seed.

That pretty much covers every water condition, clarity and type of fishing that I do.

Chartreuse is one of the better colors as far as not losing it's visibility in multiple clarities of water.

I just made a post about my favorites (also running a special on the 15 colors) and here is the link... (60 jigs for $40 including shipping is not a bad deal)

any color works as long as it is chartreuse
It is not about the equipment you have to use,
It is about how you use the equipment you have. :D

    clear water - white
    other water - chartreuse

Hard to beat chartreuse as an all-round color.
