Those are called sickle hooks, I think people like them is because a minnow will stay in place better on them.

I have a lot of jigs with those sickle hooks, hook ups are much better in fact all my Walleye jigs I buy will have sickle hooks just for that reason. I will not buy what one would call a normal hook even for livebait rigging.

Gamakatsu 211 works well with minnows or plastics.

That's interesting, I wonder why that shape would improve hook ups.

I don’t know, but it does. Seem like many more are hooked in the roof of the mouth with a sickle hook.

I have a rule not to buy or replace any tackle till it breaks, wear out , or lost . Sickle hooks to me is the way to go but have caught a ton of fish on "True Turn" crappie hooks .

I always poured my jigs with the traditional Eagle Claw 570s, but after messing around with the sickle hooks, I primarily pour the Eagle Claw Lil' Nastys now. They just seem to hook up better. not just with crappie but smallmouth, white bass, and walleye.
