A catfishes whiskers contain olfactory nerves to smell food. It is just one of the purposes for the whiskers.

Stinkbait has a ton of scent, but that doesn't make it the right scent.

Obviously cut bait is going to smell like natural forage, making it the potentially better bait.

The whiskers do 3 things. Smell, feel, and taste. Now think of this. As humans have we ever ate somthing that tasted better than it smelled? Snelled better than it tasted ? Sure we have. The catfish maybe prefers taste over smell some days and visa versa.

    Crappie are sight feeders.
Bass are sight and sound feeders.
