    Default New Rod and Reel

Before you consider my choices keep in mind that I'm cheap. I'm buying the cheapest setup that I can believe will make me happy. I plan on fishing this in a river with long casts, modestly heavy lures 1/8 or 1/16 ounce lures, and little brush to get in my way.

    Reel - Pflueger Trion Tri20x

Rod - shakespeare Micro Spinning Rod 7' UL

Line - Berkley NanoFil Uni-Filament 4 pound test

I'm splurging on the line because I'm tired of rat nests with the cheap Berkley mono I have been using. I suspect however that after reading on here that it is usually the reel not the line that I'm wasting my money.

Looks like you've got a great rig there! I'm sure it will do you justice. Let us know how you make out with it.

I think I got the idea of buying a Trion from you but I must have read a million posts here on the forums before making my choice?

Shakespeare micros are a very nice rod for the money you might want to consider the light model instead of ultralight if you are casting 1/8 oz jigs
