    Default Minnows

I'm primarily an artificial bait sac-a-lait fisherman and when I did use live bait back in the day, it was shiners. But lately, the minnows that are being sold around here are just that ....... regular looking minnows.

How many different kinds of minnows are there that are good for sac-a-lait fishing?

We've always liked Ruby Reds for crappie.

You know they proved that Red is the first color to disappear under water.

I tried Ruby reds, I fished them all day and my buddy fishing with me tried shinners and we actually caught a few more on shiners.

I have had some success with Rubys on the 'Foot, but heck, I think if the fish are bitin' , it don't matter whether it is shiner or ruby.

I use regular shiners, the silver ones. But alot of people around north Louisiana and Arkansas use the Rosie Reds, mainly because they are tougher than regulars shiners. The hooks don't pull through them as easy.

I use shiners in the summer when night fishing, but of course I always have a jig tie on about 18" below the shiner and the big fish come on the jig about 80% of the time. Summer at night is my only time to buy shiners at all, but I guess if I went at night even at this time of year I would probably do the same thing.

I also have heard that the color red is the first of the colors to disappear in the water, so why is it almost all crank baits have red on them and blood color hooks?

    Default minnows

I forgot to mention that alot of the local guys at Grenada Lake with not put a minnow in there boat. One time while I lived there I was going fishing with a man that is one of the best on Grenada Lake, and I was putting some minnows in his boat and he did everything but curse me out, he said I was welcome but those #!**^#%#*^#* minnows were not going in his boat.
Grenada can get so muddy sometimes I don't see how the heck the crappie can see a jig, but they will knock the fire out one.
