Is it possible to paint lead jig heads? If so, how is it done?

I paint my weedguard heads with vinyl paint, 2 coats white,2 coats top color, and 2 coats clear coat ( revlon 950 ). If the jigs are not weedguarded, then I powder paint them and then bake them to get a hard finish.
powder paint, you can buy a jar for $5, just heat your jig head for 4 seconds with lighter of any sort, use pliers to hold hook and dip in powder, presto ,,,painted jig head..Originally Posted by nralover

The first time I tried powder painting jig heads, I went by their recommended method of using an alchohol burning candle. Melted that lead right off the hook.
I can tell you right now that that lead was HOT !!!
Just be careful using that method. If you can manage it, get yerself a toaster oven at Wally World for $20 or so and do them in there. You shouldn't be able to cook your lead off the hook using that method.

Just finished up painting some myself. Used Pro Tec powder paint, easy to use and looks great.

I think most of the DIY jig makers use a fluid bed. You can make your own to use with powder paint out of PVC pipe fittings. A fluid bed has an air chamber on the bottem, then a layer that lets air through(coffee filter) then your powder paint. You use a small fish tank air pump to make the powder boil. and then dip you hot jigs in.

As far vinyl paint I always had bad luck, it came off like pruned old skin on a rotten piece of fruit.
I used Testers hobby paint with excellent results but petrol based paints don't hold up to oil based scents like baitmate so you have to clear coat them, another step I didn't wanna take.
Next step is powder coat.
