I was just talking with one of our marine suppliers and she told me that Lowrance was bought out in September of 2006...The company is Navico(spelling) makers of radar systems...She said the new Lowrance models will have an extra port in th back to add Navico radar..Has anyone heard anything about this?
By the way, Navico is a European company..
Humminbird is looking better every day....

Yes they have been bought out by Navico, but swear that nothing has changed technically. I think the extra port was there before they were bought out and is a network thing that you can add radar, but also add satellite radio like Sirius. The X100C I have on the front of my boat which I think is a model from 2005 has this port.Originally Posted by DonG
So I guess that I am saying nothing has changed if you like Lowrance it's still Lowrance and Mr. Lowrance still sits on the board.
I wish I had confidence in Humminbird and it wouldn't take so many changes to use one on my console, but it's not. I have a LMS 480 on the console now and all I have to change is the antenna to put on the LCX 27C I have on order.
God I sure hope that I am right, LOL!
European owned and Side Imaging are making Humminbird look attractive. According to local sales reps, the Humminbird SI stuff is outselling the Lowrance 3 to 1 for new sales.
Navico Holding (formerly Lowrance Electronics)
This sounds to me like Navico and Lowrance were one. Then they were bought out by Simrad? The products, sold under its B&G, Eagle, Lowrance, and Simrad brands, are distributed through wholesalers, boat dealers, and retail outlets like Wal-Mart.
In 2006 Simrad Yachting acquired Lowrance for about $215 million in cash.
Is that right or am I missing something?
It could be, I need a drink.

Simrad is a Navico company. So Navico is the parent company.
Thanks, but that big boy is just too much $ and when I looked at the 917 it's about the same as the Lowrance and I would have to change out everything including the bracket for my transducer so it's just not worth messing with. If that 797? the smaller one that has side view was a little bigger it may make me look at it, but even it is less clear than the big one.Originally Posted by Jeff Schiller
So for now I a just sticking with the LCX 27C when darn Cabela's get them in!
I think I will still ask Sheldon though just to be sure and complete with my digging.
Oh NO! Well s.h. I know Humminbird and Minn Kota was bought by Johnson Outdoors a few years ago. I expect to see some merging technologies in a few years (like a waypoint hovercraft trolling motor).
