    Default Longline w/t Floats?

My wife loves bobber fishing, I spider rig a bunch, Im planning on setting her up on the rear deck tolling 2 poles off the back corners, was going to use a 1/2-1oz egg weight and 3" cigar floats assuming
.4 to .9 mph. Does anyone longline this way? and if so do you try to keep your lines off the rear corners of back of the boat, and any preferance to amount of line out? Obtw would probably be pulling minnows.

Yeah I run my wife or a 3rd person a pair off each side about 40 feet back. Going that slow I use no more than 1/8 oz. With floats Many times they produce as many as the front.

Use mini planer boards ... They're just like bobbers - only directional ...

My clients love the mini planer boards. A lady fromNew Orleans fished with me in a party of 4. She was outfishing her group by a wide margin and kept saying those boards were just like using bobbers.

The mini boards will let you fish water much shallower or clearer since they get the baits away from the boat.
There are lots of videos on YouTube.

The mini planners look ideal, but the old girl is pretty set in her ways. Ive been wanting to learn to troll for walleye up here, so i might check into some at a fishing show this weekend. When I fished Talquin last Jan. It looked like plenty of guys were pulling big Curley tail grubs on big jigs heads under corks, so I was thinking it may be more popular down South?

    Tom,
Have done this many times using slotted 2" floats and 1/16 th jigs. Not sure a 3" float would hold up 1/2 or 1 ounce egg sinker. Using this amount of rods out the back should work very good.
    Good luck. Longline w/t Floats?

It works great, just do it, you do not need planer boards. P.S - I use 12,14 & 16' poles off the back, works great! Let out a lot of line!

We use the Off Shore Tackle OR-38 mini crappie boards. They are awesome. We pull cranks, jigs, and have used them with minnows like you are stating off the back while spider rigging on the front. There really is not a wrong way to use them.
