    Default BnM BGJP question

BnM will only say BGJP was designed for jig fishing straight down. Others have said it's BnM work horse rod.

What problems would I encounter using 12' BGJP for the following
    1. Longline pulling two 1/16 oz jigs' on 6-8 lbs. line at .5 to 1.5 mph.
    2. pulling bandit 300 crankbait on 8 lbs. line upto 2.0 mph.
    3. What is max weight and speed when pushing out front of boat?

I now have 3@12BGJP poles & 4@ BnM Prostaf trolling rods and don't want to buy more rods or break any tips on what I have.

Great slow trolling rod up to 3/4 oz at whatever speed you like, over that she pretty loaded up..Handles and performs excellent with 1/2 oz
Longlining it works really well up to a double rig, 1/4 and 1/8. 1/16 and 1/32 speed not really an issue
Cranking is a no go, will it do it? yes but they bad bowed up.
A lot of people love them, good rod.

All good info. I have used all of the BGJPs from 8 to 12’. Workhorse is a good name for them and the way I fish. I have vertical jigged, cast a jig and cork, pulled everything that can be pulled, and I’m still using em. I’m not gentle with them and they do take a beating, within reason. The weights Rees spoke of are spot on. I have used them with a one ounce weight but it was a bit much. I use a 3 way swivel, a half ounce weight, and pulll jigs on aborted lines instead of longline. This works very well for me and the rods load just a little. The older model 8’ rods are a little firmer and work a little better in a one pole scenario, and trolling too. The newer ones have a softer tip.

They are great all around rods for jigging, spider rigging, and pulling jigs. For crankbaits your probably better off with something else, but I did just see a episode of Brushpile fishing where they were pulling cranks on Kentucky Lake and I'm pretty sure Russ said he was using BGJP's.

I use my 12 footers mainly for long lining but also spider rig with them. Tough as nails and will handle anything you hook in to.Name: 6578.jpeg

Just don't do what I did yesterday with my 12' BnM PST rod. Broke my line so I was weaving the line back through the last 3 small rod eyes. I set my 12' rod towards the back end of the boat so I could get to those last few eyes near the tip. Got the line through and then reach back about 4' on the rod to pick it up and pull back to me. Of course the heavy part is down at the other end where the reel is. My rod snapped. There goes another $18 or so for a new tip. I guess my dumb mistake or a bad spot on the rod.
    Don't do that.
