Ok , I hate to ask this question but , I have asked 3 people and have gotten a different answer from all.

I bought a BnM jig pole with the bucks mini reel to go on it. Here is the question , Do you use it with the reel on top or with the reel hanging from the bottom ?

I know this may seem like a stupid question but I just dont know.

I do not know what a bucks mini reel looks like but if its push button with your thumb, it goes on top, if its open face spool it goes on bottom, hope this helps

If it's the little plastic reels they hang underneath. If it's the small baitcaster lookin' ones then use them on top. It's not a dumb question...I have people all the time hold the rod upside down and try to reel.

That reel should be on top, as should all baitcasting reels.

Top, and measure off one foot from were the line comes off the reel and mark or use tape to mark it on the pole, now measure how many inches one full turn of the reel will be. Now if your seeing crappie two feet off the bottom
you can put the jig right in front of thier nose. Hope this will help you.

I use the same real. you can put the handle on either side and use it on bottom or top. it is up to you. i am more comfortable with it on bottom as it balances for me better.

It's my personal favorite, makes adjustments in depth of a few inches to a foot or more quick and easy. Use it on top with thumb resting on the spool. All my poles , for now, have a foot or so of handle below the reel. With the pole resting under my forearm, and the spool under my thumb, I can scull with the other hand. This works for me. Yes, reel on top.

Good question, I've seen people use rods and reels every way you can think of. There are no dumb questions when your learning.:D

the only dumb question is the one that's never asked.

Thats how ya learn. I'll tell you that watching people fish with their spinning reels upside down makes me wish there were more people like you who have the guts to ask a question now and then. I always have to shake my head and groan when I see someone reeling a spinning reel backward with the reel stickin up in the air.

I use the plastic West Point crappie reels and I use them on the bottom. I have used the mini bait casters and I used them on the bottom. All they are is somthing to hold line. Thats all they are good for. You will find it easy to hold with the weight of the reel on bottom. If you need somthing that you are going to have to reel in a fish with, use a spinning reel or somthing.

I run them on top. But I seldom use them to reel in, I very rarely fish over 12 foot deep and I use 10 & 12 ft rods.

I tried several different types, The red Uncle buck are still going after 3 yrs
The black ones and all other brands have not made a full year before they give out. Love em

I have been using these reels for years. Sorry guys but I hang mine on the bottom. I turn them around and put the reel on the right hand side. I very seldom actually use the reel except to let my line up or down. I always lift my fish up out of the water and swing it into the boat. As a mater of fact everyone I no around my part of Ky Lake uses them this way. So the answer is in my opinion is there is no set rule just do what feels right for you!

Put it on the bottom along with the eyelets on your rod. If fishing deeper than the length of your rod, just pull line with your free hand until you can lift the fish out of the water and swing him in the boat.

spinning reel works so much better. you can use the drag on bigger fish and balance better. Zebco t11 triggerspin is hard to beat.
