Not sure how many of you ever use "creature" baits for crappie. A couple of years ago I experimented with plastic helgrammites on jig heads and drop shotting. Worked well. I plan on doing more this coming season as well.

I usually use the Case Helgrammite in black or green pumkin, but there's a new sheriff in town! It's called the NIKKO Helgrammite. Looks pretty realistic. Should be an excellent plastic on either crappie or bass. Definitely have to give them a whirl.

Do any of you ever use creature baits? Here's a link to this new bait:

Not sure I have ever used case brand, but I have used nikko before for bass fishing and all of their baits have caught me many fish.

About the only "creature bait" I've used with reasonable success has been the Southern Pro Crappie Craw. Some of the Black Crappie in one of our local lakes did seem to like them well enough to get them "hooked" on them.

Like most segmented lures, light reflects off of it at different angles. The leg action is minimal same for the body which is a bit stiff.
Suggestion: if the 3" version isn't working, cut it down to 1.5 -2 inches of the tail. Both ends will work when rigged on a light unpainted ballhead jig. The profile is one that will provoke strikes when fished slowly - pretty much like many designs similar to it.
I use one with longer legs I make myself:
