Don't doubt the troubles. Shortly after Camping World acquired Gander the CEO made a statement that no gun owner needs to step foot on Camping World property. Business is not wanted. Apologized a week later but it was out there.
Gander Outdoors on north side of Indy post 8 x 11 notices on doors notifying employees it was shut down and if anybody had gift cards a number to call. If you do have gift cards, better maybe spend them as they seem to be in trouble again. Nothing in the news yet here, so don’t really know what is going on. Just a FYI.

Agreeed wholeheartedly. I do no business with Camping world, Good Sams club, Gander or Overtons.
Gander Mountain sucked anyway good riddance.
Academy has a lot better selection on most stuff and is not ridiculously priced.
Only time I buy from the big stores is when they have a "sale" that is really a "sale" (which is rare) or I get a dedicated gift card. I like to go look though.

It turned in to a yuppy store. At the start of the original Gander issue, I was already starting to have major issues with big box stores in general. To the point where I was seeing that, despite what people think, these big box store/catalog stores do NOT have better pricing compared to other places.
I started sourcing the majority of my equipment from right here in Michigan. To such a point that they get the majority of my business. I was content to spent a little more money knowing that it was going to stay here in Michigan. what I found out was that I was actually SAVING money, getting local, quality, customer support, and people with the knowledge and willingness to help me out.
Jay's sporting goods in Clare and Gaylord Michigan, Frank's Great outdoors in Linwood, and Northwoods tackle in Pinconing are my top choices.

Bye, Bye
This doesn't appear to be the first time this has happened with any forewarning. Nobody is really sure what their CEO is doing.

This article "might" also help explain things:
The Problem for Camping World Isn't in Its Sales, It's in Its Buys -- The Motley Fool
Looking at this from a sheer investers standpoint, I believe the above article has a ton of merit and "might" be the reason why they are shuttering some stores without warning. Their earnings came in lower than projected despite the record number of sales related to RV's and campers. The problem however is that they acquired a ton of debt in the form of operating costs. I assume that in some locations, operating costs are much higher than in others. Projected sales simply do not make up the differential fast enough. When profits and revenue are lower than targeted and your stock is at a 52 week low with people not wanting to shoulder the debt, you can see the writing on the wall. I suspect they will either delay opening further stores or start closing others until the ship rights itself.
From an outdoorsman standpoint, the CEO opened mouth and inerted foot and alienated the very people that were supposed to spend money in his new stores. When you sell products at or above MSRP, you cannot stay in business very long. You have ZERO draw to your store. Especially considering that people can purchase the same products cheaper at other places.
