    Default QUESTION ABOUT SCENTS

Work is slow today and I am bored so here's my question.
Why would someone use wd40 for a scent or cover scent? I think it's mostly kerosene. In the name of covering up scents on our hands like gas and oil. That don't need to be in our streams anyway, right? There's just to many good options out there.
I use nibbles or minnows myself if at all.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS" to all of you!

It used to be believed (and probably still is by some) that WD40 was made from fish oil. That's probably how it originated. But, I agree, it's not something you want to put on your bait.

Slab sauce works well and stays on plastic jigs longer.

It's not the numbers or the size, it's the time spent on the water!

Actually, WD-40 is mostly Aliphatic Hydrocarbons (solvent) and Petroleum Base Oil (oil).

Doesn't have "fish oil" & never did (unless we're talking Jurassic Period fish, maybe )

And FWIW ... even the WD-40 Company put out a statement that its product was NOT condoned by them as a "scent" product, and do not recommend it for that use.

    Might be something to consider

    As it's ingredients are :
Active Ingredients: Preparation H is available in ointment, cream, gel, and suppository product forms. The Ointment contains Petrolatum 71.9%, Mineral Oil 14%, Shark Liver Oil3% and Phenylephrine HCl0.25%.

Think I'll stick with Slab Sauce or nibblets

Yeah, the fish bite, pucker up and don't let go !!
I knew it had shark oil in it, and learned this from an old black man who loaded his bucket fishing on the bank.
I think it should be marketed as a dual purpose product!!!

I probably have, and it was probably right here on this site !! I've also heard of people using Ivory Soap for Catfish (it's made from animal & vegetable "fats").

I don't recommend using any of these three products (WD40 - Prep H - Ivory Soap) as a fish attractant scent, and never have personally used any of them. We've already got enough pollutants in our waters, let's not worsen the matter by using products with petroleum products, other "oils", or pharmaceuticals.
