Looking for way to keep leaders handy for breakoffs.
Leaders have jig on one end, loop knot on other.
Pool noodle with a slot maybe??
Tuck loop in slot?
How do you do it?

Pool noodle for me currently. Can be kinda bulky to store in a bag or something so Iím considering switching to cardboard. Saw it in passing on a YouTube vid and it stacks a lot better.

I have used a pool noodle that I stuck a row of toothpicks in. Leave about a 1/2" of the toothpicks sticking up. Place the loop on the toothpick, wind the line around the noodle then hook the jig in the foam.

There is a slit to slide the line where your loop knot would be and you wrap line around tube then stick your hook into it. There is a couple of sizes of this storage tube but will hold a bunch of premade lines up. I also use one for spinner rigs premade for walleye fishing in 3’ lengths each.

Use floral pins, not the small ones but the bigger ones, find them in the floral department at WalMart.

Since storage space is at a premium in my kayak, I make up 3'-4' leaders with a swivel on one end and a snap on the other, then wrap the line around small pill bottles. There is just enough stretch in the fluorocarbon line that I can attach the open snap into the empty line tie on the other end of the leader. I can fit about 10 leaders on one bottle, then store extra snaps & swivels in the pill bottle. I write the pound test of the line on a piece of paper taped to the inside wall of the bottle. I can change leader length & strength in a flash.

*If I weren't reclined in an easy chair with my cat buddy curled up across my legs, I'd go take a picture. Maybe tomorrow.*

Here is a leader stick I made for my buddy and I to have fast access to change leaders while pushing jigs. Each stick holds 8 rigs

Pick up a 1/2 inch dowel at any big box store and cut to length. We use 3 foot fluorocarbon leaders, loop on one end, jig on the other. This stick keeps them straight and kink free. The ends also have caps that snap on to act as a keeper so the rubber bands don't get lost.

The ends are 3-D printed. If anyone wants the .stl files to print their own, just let me know and I'll post them.

I use this, it's velcro, and also comes with little velcro squares to help hold down leaders without hooks.

I keep mine in grocery freezer bags bc they zip up. The rigs that have a loop at one end I just put on a noodle that I push in some Sheetrock screws deep enough to get to the smooth part of the shank. I carry a bag of longline and a bag of tightline rigs.

I use Pool Noodles : for jighead leaders I just wrap them, starting with the loop knot and wrapping the leader around and over the loop & sticking the jig hook into the noodle.

for crankbait leaders - I have some made up with 2oz trolling weights, so in those cases I do slit the noodle (and I use the larger diameter noodle). I push the 2oz weight into the slit, then wrap the leader around the noodle and secure it to the noodle with the duo-lock snap (open).

I do cut the Pool Noodle in lengths to easily fit into whichever tackle bag is appropriate (& depending on how much space is available to store them). In my case that's 4" to 6" sections of noodle.

The only problem with coiled leaders, especially fluorocarbon coiled leaders, is... the coil. When undone you end up with a leader that looks like a slinky. And when slow trolled they act like an Archimedes pump screw, slowly twirling light jigs like a spinner.

And the coil set gets worse the longer the leaders remain coiled. Which is why the leader stick I posted earlier works best for my fishing buddy and me.

Precisely why "I" don't use fluorocarbon line (for leaders or on spinning reels) :biggrin But, in the case of mono coils set in when wrapped around a pool noodle ... simply stretching/holding the leader for a few seconds before attaching them is enough to straighten out most of the coils. And when I'm Pushing these "jigs on leaders", even the 1/16oz jigs/plastics have enough drag/resistance against the water to keep the leader running straight away from the weight. Now that's with leaders of 6lb test mono, so I'm not saying that leaders of much higher pound test would react the same.

And for the record, I'm not dissing your "rubber band stands" at all, as they obviously work. :ThumbsUp (I use pool noodles for their space saving advantage ... and they float if they should happen to go overboard)

Re: Floating.

Ask my fishing buddy Don. I am perfectly capable of dropping ANYTHING overboard. Two cameras, one phone, his wrench for adjusting rod holders... just to name a few. And one of the things was a leader stick (or two, dropped one over the side last trip actually).

They float. :)

Sent from my SM-S727VL using Crappie.com Fishing mobile app (http://r.tapatalk.com/byo?rid=87936)The tube has slots in it that is marked with yellow string. You just slide the head of leader in it and wrap around the tube then embed the hook at the end. Each tube will hold around 10 leaders.

I use them for salmon leaders, etc.
