Default Fav jig head for long lining

What’s your favorite jig head for long lining and where do you get them. Do you think jig head color makes much difference. In my experience it can make a huge difference, just wondering what others thought.

I agree that color on a lot of days makes a huge difference! It’s hard to beat a chartreuse or a pink head on one lake in particular they like blue I usually start out with a couple colors and also use some unpainted heads in the mix never know what they want ! Until my fishing partner started keeping me supplied I used lite wire hooks from CURTIS HOBBS lite wire hooker on the Ga board Curtis is a great guy to buy from!

I think most of mine are 1/16oz - 1/8oz ballhead jigs w/#4 Aberdeen bronze or gold hooks. Most are painted, and in a wide variety of colors. Some were custom made by Slabeye (no longer making them) and others are commercially made.

I don't, however, "Longline" with them ... I "Push" with these jigs.

I'm sure jighead color can make a difference, under certain circumstances, but since I use unpainted jigheads when casting (a much slower presentation) and catch fish ........... I am not totally convinced that it's a major factor.

I usually use bare lead heads, sometimes a white, chartreuse or black but very seldom. Ball heads are the norm but I really like the minnow head style. Longline gets 1/32 or 1//16 depending on depth and speed. I run 6, 9, and 12’ rods. 6’goes short, 9’ longer and the 12’s go the longest. Good separation and depth spread that way. Hope this helps.

Minnow head jigs and pony heads / road runners. And I prefer painted, some days seems to make all the difference as per color head and body combination. I prefer to buy from small mom and pop tiers if at all possible.

I pour my own jigs. Any where from a 1/64 ball to a 1/4 pony head. Somehow a bright pink 1/8 Arkie with a #1 gold hook ends up on my line every time. Doesn't matter if I am pushing, pulling, jigging or casting. It was something I read from the guy from Crappie Styxx. It kinda struck home with me.
