    Default Lake Lucas 8/26/18

So after doing yard work all day Saturday I was able to sneak away Sunday to Lake Lucas for some fishing. Since the lake doesn’t open until 7 it was about 7:30 when I launched.

All swagged out in the extremely comfortable Crappie.com performance shirt I headed out. Man was I sore and started wondering if I made right decision once I started paddling that kayak. All that faded away when I made turn around the bend and was able to view the wonderful sunrise.

I was enjoying being on the water and seeing sites like these. Last trip I went to the bridge and headed there again first thing. Passing all the other boats and fishermen, I was on a mission.

Reached the bridge and tied off. Started with double jig setup on two rods, one with flat tail stingers and the other with shad bodies. I could see the fish on fish finder, those on the bottom about 15-17 fow and those around 6-8 fow. Fish were there I just needed to ketch them. Boom, I started ketching them. Now why is it when you have camera out for picture that crappie is the one that falls and slimes your leg and everything in kayak?

Now I haven’t hooked a fish yet in the side rod holder I just let the jigs hang and move with the kayak. Let me say when your enjoying the calm and focused on your other rod and something that seems like a freight train hits that rod, you jump. Not shamed to say it scared me a little...lol. I’m panicking and trying to put other rod away and the drag is screaming. I’m thinkin this has to be a catfish. After a good little fight I see it. A largemouth.

Seems these fish under the bridge like the black...noted. The bite seemed to slow around 10 but I fished to 12 and decided skipping breakfast had me starving and needing food. Heading back I was glad I went. Also noticed the front of kayak needs a Crappie.com sticker....lol.

Good report and pics. Bridge fishing rocks in the Summer, shade and fish combined, can’t beat it.

Glad you got out there and caught some fish and very nice write up with pictures. It sure did get hot and soupy today. I plan on hitting Gaston either Tuesday or Wednesday morning. Nice shirt.

Pretty neat post and some beautiful pictures (the leg shot not withstanding of course!).
