I use southern crappie rods by Ed Duke in NC. I longline and spider rig jigs about 80% of the year and during the hot summer months I pull and push cranks with the same brand of rods. He has the regular rods for jigs and the scr-t model for using trolling weights for Crankbaits or if you have to use heavier weight for spider rigging. Your going to get a lot of opinions on type of rods , there kinda like people with there brand of cars they like. Just do some research on this forum and keep asking questions, people on here will help you all they can. Good luck Rod action for slower speed trolling

Andy .... that might depend on how much weight you use, if any at all .... and exactly what kind of "trolling" you're talking about.

I'd say that the action would likely run from the med category & a parabolic bend, all the way to a med/hvy & fast action tip bend. That would be especially true if any added weights were being used. I mean, I've longline trolled with one rod in hand, and that rod was a Ultra-lite ... dragging a 1/16oz Road Runner down a bank. I've Pulled cranks with 7' Med Action Bass rods & 2oz weights & 13' Fiberglass rods with the same rig - & Pushed jigs with 7' & 10' & 14' rods with 1/2oz to 1.5oz weights. All their actions are different, in accordance with their length/brand/style. My speeds run from around 0.4mph to 1mph (in my boat), but I've gone faster (up to almost 2mph) fishing in other people's boats.

Are you going slow for any particular reason ??
