    Default Trolling Speed

I am new to trolling for crappie. I have an 8.8HP kicker on my boat that can be run pretty slowly. What is a good range of speed for trolling for crappie? Is there such a thing as too slow as long as the baits swim correctly?

    Thank you!

Depends on what type of trolling...Longlineing...pulling cranks....spider rigging...or power trolling ...or pushing cranks....each has a different speed range.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I am guessing you are pulling cranks if you are using an outboard. In that case I like to shoot for about 1.5 mph. I use my 115 and throw two buckets out that act as drift socks. They slow me down to about 1.6 to 1.7. If I am pulling jigs I like around .8 mph, but vary depending on fish depth. I control depth of crankbaits by changing cranks or amount of line out.

I am guessing the .8 speed is best achieved with the trolling motor, correct?

Yes. Only use outboard for cranks. Trolling motor for jigs.
