View Full Version : Crappie Schools - Side Imaging

My fishing buddy Don and I got a few hours in today. Hot, hot, hot. This summer the heat really seems bad.

But we caught fish. Nothing to write home about but I kept enough for the family to have dinner. Most were small by our usual "keeper" standards of 12 inches.

If anyone is interested, here is what a few crappie schools look like on side imaging sonar. In this case, a Garmin SV93 The two large lines on the right are, first, the motor foot and second, the starboard pontoon tube.

These are black crappie and the water temperature was in the 80's. They were all holding on a breakline falling from 15 or 16 feet off into 20 feet of water.

I'd be throwing a marker and making a waypoint when I got back to it. You found em and caught em, good job.

Ah, but that is so 1990. :)

All you have to do today is touch the screen, then hit "mark". Then tell your trolling motor to return to the mark.

Tom, how does your trolling motor know where Togo back to,if you mark it on your depth finder? Thanks for any input on this

On my boat, I tell the trolling motor to steer back to the place we caught fish using our track with the iPilot remote. On my fishing buddy's boat, he just tells the iPilot Link which marks he wants to hit and it drives there by itself.

My Boat is only Two steps up from a Yak - maybe three - 2-D sonar , TM , and a motor on a 14 foot platform --- wish I could see like that

My little boat is just a 14 foot fishing pontoon. Only has a 20hp motor. But it is comfortable for Don and I to fish out of. And our Florida lakes are small anyway.
