Very tasty eating. I would have kept and fileted those. Nice job.
I decided to do something that I havent actively done since I was about 6 years old and that is actively target bluegill. I do hear they eat pretty good however, I have never ate one. I will be back to catch a few for a fish fry next time!

Bluegills and Shellcrackers have even firmer meat than crappie. They taste a bit "sweeter" to some people too. They are best scaled, gutted, and the head cut off. Fry them and they are very easy to de-bone on your plate.

PS: They fight above their size too. Great fun on light tackle. If Bream grew to 5 pounds, no one would fish for bass.
PPS: Your biggest one was a Shellcracker I think, not a gill.

Great video, gills and ShellCrackers cannot resist those live crickets. Get you an ultralight rod with 2-4lb test line and you might just give up chasing those green fish:-)!

I try to take my 5yr old bluegill fishing every trip we take on the lake. Take 50-100 crickets and post up under a bridge and start yanking them out! I turn the drag down alittle for him so he can fight them longer.

Nice catch. When our girls were younger we fished a couple farm ponds and would just wear them out. Crickets were non-stop action and a ton of fun. Enjoyed the video..
Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me"
Wear that PFD, the life you save might be your own!!
Reminds me of when I worked Busch Gardens Williamsburg in Va. back in the mid '90's. When I was off and the park was closed as employee's we could fish the back water areas of the river ride when the park was closed. I found a very active area for bluegills. Dinner plate size for sure. No competition either. Crickets and a small clear bobber and you could fill a 5 gallon bucket in about an hour and a half... Lots of fun for sure. Congrates on some whoppers.
