I have had my best luck with #6 down here.

I use #4 Flicker Shads when the water is cold, after a cold front shrinks the strike zone, or in early Spring when fish are holding shallow in warmer protected areas. Most of the summer my work horses are #5s & #6s. As summer progresses I go to #6s or #7s. You can see the depth charts on the package that #6s & #7s run similar depths. Bigger profile seems to help in off color water. I also replace the stock hooks on the size 4, 5, & 6 Flicker Shads with #8 Gamakatsu round bend trebles because they're sticky sharp and strong. I use size 6 hooks on the #7 Flicker Shads.

I mostly fish for Black Crappie because the lakes I fish have plenty of 'em. The White Crappie tend to gather in deeper water in more structured schools and the Black Crappie are shallower, more random, and tend to roam in my experience. They both key on schools of shad, which is why those Flicker Shads perform so well.

That's what works for me. I hope it works for you. Good Luck!

#5s in colder water, #7s once the water hits 60 or so. I used to swap out the trebles due to losing fish on the way to the boat but the quality of hooks on the newer Flicker Shads seems to be improved from those 5-6 years ago.

#7 and #6 for crappie. I've caught some dandies on #9s too.

Purple tiger, racy shad, pearl white, and firetiger are my favorite colors.

#5 Flicker shad for me. They more closely match the fry and bait fish sizes in the inland lakes I fish. Plus the dive depth and setback from my planer boards puts me in a great position for fishing next to and overtop of weed beds.

Thanks guys I had picked up about 30 #5's when they where on sale the other day and was second guessing the size but it sounds like I will be good.
