    Default Help with pulling cranks

Guys need some help learning to pull cranks.

Been 3 times now and catch about 10 yellow bass each trip, but can’t seem to catch crappie. Using bandit 300 crappie versions fishing 12-15 ft deep in 20-30 feet of water. Using various colors and speeds from 1.5-2.0.

What should I try different? Am I in the right area for crappie if I’m catching several yellow bass? Do yellow bass tend to stay at same or different depth than crappie?

any suggestions or areas to target?

Shorten you lines up, fish real hi in the water column. Find ledges or creeks or rivers and criss cross em. Each lake is different, very different sometimes.

Find shad or fish on ff. Set to run 2-3 ft. above what you see on finder. No fish on ff go find them before fishing. As Paul says if it ain't working change something color speed depth.

All I can add is :

if there's a thermocline present, fish above it

take note of the direction you're going when working an area, as sometimes you'll get more hits going one direction than the reverse direction (mrdux seminar note)

don't always make arrow straight runs thru an area, zig zag or run an S pattern ... and watch your inside/outside rods for more hits. Inside rod's baits will be running slower in the turns & outside rod's baits will be going faster, and that can also help tell you the precise speed of the baits that the fish are keying on. (especially when using weights ahead of your cranks ... may not be as much of a factor when pulling cranks w/o added weights)

Come to the seminar and get ideas from 3 guys who set their boats and gear up differently but catch crappie.

I plan on explaining what I look for when I’m fishing new water or a new lake.

We'll be there with 2 of the 3 boats but with Rickie in tow also. Just let us know what we can help with. Jere will be cooking cobblers for Saturday, if not sooner.
