What is everyone using for line when pulling crankbaits? I bought a bunch of 2nd hand bandit 300's a couple years ago and only done it a handful of times. I'm getting dink after dink right now pushing minnows so I figure I'd finally get serious about pulling cranks in hopes of eliminating a lot of the smaller bites. I used 20# stren braid the last time because I didn't feel like losing one.
I use 30 lb braid. Small enough diameter to let them dive and strong enough to not loose them to brush. Plus it holds up to the catfish rolling up in the line better than mono.
12lb berkley big game in solar color on my Okuma Magda line counter reels.
10lb Berkley XT mono.
I run planer boards and the mono holds better in the release clips with less tearing of the pads.
However, if I was pulling consistently in brush areas or areas with lots of cats and other rolling species, and I wasn't using boards, braid gets the nod.
Baits also dive slightly deeper with less line when using braid over mono.
30lb braid

40# power pro braid. I'm a convert from 10# mono and so far haven't noticed any issues. I am going back and reworking my depth charts running flats with my inline weights as well as straight flat lining. Mono worked great for me, but the nicks and abrasions it suffers caused me several lost cranks (with fish) and a planer board.

6lb fireline crystal.
I use 10# mono because I won several thousand yards of it at Grizzly Jigs drawings..... Wally Marshall and Vicious hi viz stuff. Can't beat luck.
I also won a spool of Wally Marshall camo 10# mono. Need to spool some up ans see if I can catch some of those fish that have vanished from Ky Lake. They somewhere.
