    Default 4' 6" Rod Recommendations

Fellow crappie chasers, I'm looking for some opinions on a good 4' 6" rod to use dock shooting. I know there's several threads on dock shooting equipment already but instead of hijacking someone's thread I figured I'd start my own.

I see that most folks prefer a slightly longer rod than I do, but my favorite is the 4' 6". I can cover all the water I need with it on my home lake and it's easy to maneuver. It has to have a fast tip more than anything else. Currently I'm using an old BPS microlight elite rod and it's the best I've had. I hope it lasts many more years but I need a backup just in case. I've got a pflueger combo in 4' 6" (older trion with the wood reel handle) but the tip is not fast enough for shooting. The rods bend starts to close to the handle for my liking.

I see BPS has a microlite rod still in production, but the 4' 6" model has a Tennessee handle. While I understand the benefits of this style handle to balance the outfit, I'm not crazy about a reel seat that's not fixed. Any thoughts or pros and cons on the Tennessee handle??

I would much rather handle the rod before purchasing, but my options for short rods in my local stores are limited so I may have to order online and hope for the best.

Just curious if anyone can offer any opinions.

5’6” ACCCrappiestix. Unbelievable backbone, light tip, easy to bend and powerful. Cannot beat it.

For $17 look at the Shakespeare micro series. I have a few in different sizes and you might just love like I do mine.

Totally off topic, well sort of off topic, after reading about how much you like this rod, I bought a 7’ light action. Spooled a reel with 2 lb SOS, and dubbed it a trout rod. It caught it’s first Smoky Mountain Rainbow yesterday as we were killing some time before the Cataloochee elk herd made their appearance. I am now a believer!

I have nothing but Proangler in my Crappie boat. I use 6 8 footers out the back long lining along with a 12, and 10' on each side. Total of 10 rods. been using them for about 7 years now.

Started with Pro Angler but got hooked on (sorry) the ACCCrappieSix. They are lighter and the backbone is fantastic as well as the sensitive tip. I am sure there are others that are great too. Just buy a couple and start fishing. You will find the one that fits your hand.
