the graph quit on us at launch yesterday ....OH NO mister bill whatever will we do .....
we will never find them ,it is over before we even drop a jig ....
no docks to pitch under
no standing timber
no bridges
the spawn is long over with
just open water and NO GRAPH
Its gunna be a BAD day for sure .....darn the BAD luck
now ...the GOOD news ....twin Ticas and G sauce to the rescue !
knowing the water you hit is for sure a recipe for who cares if the graph don't work ,who cares if there isn't a bridge or a dock or some timber . Being able to triangulate off visible landmarks and knowing what is in those areas that holds fish is the ticket .
long before gps and graphs I learned the art of triangulation . its a lost art these days but to be sure it WORKS ! we used to fish humps 40 years ago in open water with this method for striper .
In this particular scenario we fished a ledge type of drop off we found the VERY first time we ever hit this lake years ago . we found herds of fish along it that time and found visible cover along its edge for quite a distance and fish all along it . I even found out later a guy that is one of my best friends is the one who sunk the pvc condos along that ledge many moons before I met him !
so go with knowledge and use landmarks to find spots you previously found fish on , its a recipe for a fun day .
the particulars ....we set up near where the drop off was and pitched in a 360 pattern until we figured out where it dropped and floated very light jigs down that drop and flat hammered the fish ...the shelf sits at about 10 and it drops to about 20 and a free fall down the slope will get thumped right nicely . sat around under the shade under his topper and shot the breeze and whacked the lips .
kept him a few and yucked it some along the way
float those lil jigs like a butterfly and STING like a bee as was once said
and yes I even had some littles takes both my tandems at the same time a few times as well
never say never , hope you enjoyed the read and photos

Tell ya what, it's a different ball game without electronics.....I still try'n remember land marks for just this case..... open water is a bit more difficult than spots close to shore.... y'all had good luck finding structure that helped feesh... nicely done....
If I am inshore I rarely ever mark a spot. Most often out of pure habit I triangulate the spot and then later hit hits me I could have marked it. Fish the spot again and repeat. Now offshore I mark everything without thinking about it. Guess its harder to trangulate with no land in sight. Tried peeing on the spot but the bubbles just float away.
Nice post as usual!
Along the same triangulation route. On a new lake to us saw a huge dog legged persimmon. Told my partner I’d bet there was a brush pile right there.
You guessed it, right on the money.
That’s all we used to have to work with.
